People are installing generator sockets in their houses. There have been many power outages lately in the mid-north coast essential energy area, and I have heard people are putting generator sockets in their homes. Don’t do it. You could kill someone. This needs to be done by a licensed electrician, applied to, and approved by essential energy. This is not a joke, electricity is dangerous, and you could kill a lineman. Your generator will back feedback unto the overhead power line and become 11000 volts, and again this is not a joke. Essential energy will peruse you through the courts, and so will the department of fair trading. They don’t stop biting until they have got you, and your life will be in ruins. They both take this very seriously, so ensure you get an electrician to do this work. That has obtained approval from essential energy.

My recent experience of people wanting a cheap solar system. We are asked a lot to price solar systems, which is fair enough. But with cheaper companies that are not local. They don't want to know you when they have made the sale. After all, why would they, they have been paid and are sitting in a nice shiny building three hundred kilometres away. This, to me, doesn't make sense from a customer's point of view. I have heard frustrated customers come back to me to ask me to fix their solar system. All because they installed a cheap solar system and saved a few hundred dollars. The usual story is the electrician can't get there for a month, if at all. Or the solar company phones me up to fix their system. The moral of the story is to get a local company that installs good quality solar components and does good quality and that they are licensed electricians because there are some shocking workmanship out there.

They say it is great price great panels good inverter. How comes then I have to fix so money faulty systems? why is it that so many Chinese inverter companies have gone out of business? Or cheap solar panels that discolour, have junction boxes that fall of. Have terminations that have burnt and have tracking under the glass. My Thoughts On People Doing Their Own Electrical Work Unlicensed

Over the years I have seen terrible and dangerous electrical wiring. Not only do these people risk their family’s lives, but it is also against the law. When they sell the property on the dodgy wiring is still there. It is someone else’s problem, and they have to pay for it to be fixed. This can be hundreds and hundreds of dollars. Moral to the story is get a licensed electrical contractor to do a pre purchase electrical report. On the condition of the wiring and switch boards of the property you are thinking of buying. This is a small price for peace of mind when you are paying hundreds of thousands of dollars for a new property. Wiring will generally only last 40 years the heat really can damage its integrity. My Thoughts On Installing Steel Power Poles Verses Wooden Power Poles

There are some distinct advantages for both types of power pole. We use both types of power poles, and they are both very good and very strong. They will last years. Advantages of wooden power pole are strength and height and durability. Disadvantages can be dry rot, white ants, cost of machinery to move them and bore the hole. To be honest though I have seen some untreated 40-year-old power poles that are still in service today. Steel poles also have some distinct advantages they are much lighter and easier to install. Generally, a steel pole can be transported on a light truck or Ute and installed by 2 workers in a day. They are much cheaper to purchase also. I also have heard it said by Essential energy staff that they can sometimes only last 10 years. This can be a problem and a disappointment for the consumer if they still own the property. We install our steel power pole with as many bags of concrete that the hole will allow so we have an 80 to 120kg foundation to secure the weight of the service line. With wooden poles we treat them for white ants with thermidor. We also treat the power poles for wood rot with pole saver rods to Australian standard As3000. According to the NSW Government, the Solar Bonus Scheme will end on the 31st of December 2016.

You will need to change your current gross meter on your main switch board to a net meter. If you fail to do this, everything your system produces will be fed into the Grid and you will be credited for this at a rate of approx. 7 cents per Kilowatt/hour. Contact your Energy Retailer for their rates. So, in other words, you will get no benefit from your solar.
